Global Children's Arts Programs

Global Children's Arts ProgramsAt this year's Tour of the “Global Children's Art Programs” the American art teacher Timothy Lomas stopped by at the Beluga School for Life. During several months of travel right across South East Asia, the New Yorker visited numerous aid projects. Together with children from Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, Timothy Lomas penciled landscapes of different regions.

During the two-day workshop more than 30 students gathered in the Art Building of the Beluga School for Life to participate on the Global Children's Art Programs. They worked just as concentrated as creative and put their artistic skills to the test. With all artworks in checked bags, Timothy Lomas travels back to New York to present the drawings to the public and put them up for sale. All earnings will be donated to the specific foundation, where it has been drawn.

All large and small BSfL residents hereby thank for the involvement of Timothy Lomas. They not only hope that the Sale will be a big success, but also to see him again next year!

Information about the "Global Children's Art Programs", impressions of this year's trip and photos of the artworks of the children will be available soon at www.globalchildrensartprogramme.org

Farm area of BSfL - cultivation and animal husbandry advances

Farm area of BSfLAfter the entire course was set, the farming operation of the Beluga School for Life is now making serious progress. Goal of the own farming operations is to increase the schools self-sufficiency. Through a generous donation of Futouris it was possible to purchase land, some livestock and to develop the territory. Houses and related outdoor enclosure were built for chickens and pigs, where already the first pigs have moved in, in case they aren´t in the large free-range enclosure. Also for the pet dung a use has been found. A self-made biogas plant will convert the manure of animals into gas which can be used for cooking.
Cucumbers, beans and pumpkins are things which are already planted and various herbs and fruits which can be processed in the BSfL kitchen or could be sold on the market.

With the establishment of the Organic Farming area the children also learn things such as how deliberate and sustainable agriculture works and can extend this experience later in life and continue to improve.

How the new school building sets up – An interim Report

new school buildingEight months ago the BSfL set the foundation stone for a new School building. Today there is already a building on the former meadow, on which is being worked diligently in despite of the rainy season continues. The plaster works are finished, all classrooms on the ground floor are tiled and operations on the interior and roof are continued under high pressure. Despite the heavy rains, the completion will take place, just as planned, in October. An official opening will be held on semester beginning early November. Afterwards about 130 students are able to move into the school and start to learn in the premises. In addition to the Primary School (grades 1-6), which is already taught at the Beluga School for Life, the students of secondary school (grades 7-12) don´t have to visit a remote school anymore, because of the ne w created space, they can learn on site as well.

We send out a sincere thank you to all contributors.
