The Project

In October 2006, the Beluga School for Life in Na Nai near Khao Lak was solemnly inaugurated. It offers children in need a new home and ample space to live.

The Beluga School for Life was erected on the premises of a former coconut plantation near the small village Na Nai ("village in the rice field") in a little valley surrounded by mountains, approx. a 20 minute drive from Khao Lak.

Apart from residential buildings and school buildings the Beluga School for Life comprises:

  • a kindergarten
  • a museum
  • training workshops and classrooms
  • an amphitheater for events and performances
  • a cafeteria and visitor restaurant, including a bakery and other kitchen facilities
  • areas for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables

The Beluga School for Life was created in 2005 by Niels Stolberg, managing director of the Beluga Shipping GmbH. The Bremen shipping company owner provided the basis for this project with a start-up capital of 1.5 million euro and guaranteed the operating costs for the next ten years. The businessman explains his commitment as the desire to help immediately and lastingly. In liability to fulfill his social responsibilities Niels Stolberg founded the Beluga School for Life to offer targeted and sustainable help.
